Thank you for the question!
LUCIA EX inks (iPF8400) and LUCIA PRO II inks (PRO-4600) are different generations/formulations of Canon pigment ink.
- LUCIA EX is an older pigment-ink system used in various Canon imagePROGRAF large-format printers. Canon describes it as available in 6-, 8-, and 12-color systems.
- LUCIA PRO II is a newer formulation used in Canon's current professional PRO-series printers. Canon says it was developed to improve image quality, dark-area gamut, light resistance, and scratch resistance. It also uses a different ink formulation/material for matte black and incorporates features such as wax for improved scratch resistance.
- They are not interchangeable. The printer's firmware, print head, ink delivery system, and ICC profiles are designed around the specific ink set. For example, the PRO-1100 uses PFI-4100 LUCIA PRO II cartridges, while the PRO-310 uses PFI-5100.
One important wrinkle: "LUCIA EX" isn't simply a lower-quality version of LUCIA PRO II. It's an older technology, and the actual difference in print appearance depends heavily on the particular printer, ink colors, paper, and ICC profile.
We would recommend you create a new custom profile on a new printer.
